Prof. Andreas Ingerl is a designer, futures researcher, curator and professor of Audiovisual Media at HTW Berlin, University of Applied Sciences. His work focuses on artistic and experimental design processes in the fields of artificial intelligence, creative technologies and emerging technologies. Over the past years he has built studios, curricula and research structures across design, technology and society.

EXTENDED PROFILE

Andreas Ingerl’s practice combines audiovisual media, interaction and spatial formats with critical investigations of how emerging technologies reshape perception, public space and cultural imaginaries. In his studios he treats design as a form of applied future research: students develop tangible, often installation‑based scenarios that explore explainable, responsible and experienceable futures using prognostic and probabilistic methods rather than open speculation.

At HTW Berlin he has been responsible for establishing and leading project‑based studios and curricula in communication design and audiovisual media, with a strong emphasis on AI‑driven image, sound and interaction systems, immersive and sensor‑based environments, and prognostic design approaches. His courses regularly involve cross‑disciplinary collaboration with computer science, engineering and often culminate in exhibitions and festival presentations, including regular contributions to the Ars Electronica Campus Exhibitions.

Ingerl’s curatorial work includes the conception and realisation of exhibitions and thematic programmes that connect artistic research, design and technology in public settings. He has curated and co‑curated projects at design and media festivals, collaborating with institutions such as Ars Electronica, Futurium Berlin and Stiftung Reinbeckhallen to translate experimental studio work into accessible public formats.

His academic profile is complemented by talks, publications and committee work on design education, AI and creative technologies. He contributes to research clusters on emerging technologies, generative AI and human‑centred interaction design, including the Creative Technologies cluster, the AI workshop and the Curriculum Innovation Hub at HTW Berlin, and is involved in academic governance through roles in senate, board and faculty committees.
